This is the fifth year the Commonwealth Cares Foundation has hosted a charity golf tournament and the third year it will donate the proceeds to Palmetto Medical Initiative, a Charleston-based nonprofit committed to providing sustainable, quality health care to those in need while increasing accessibility to global medical missions. PMI has built a medical clinic in Masindi, Uganda, and last year launched a new initiative in Nicaragua.
Needtobreathe band members Bear Rinehart and Bo Rinehart, brothers from the Seneca, S.C., area, formed the band with drummer Joe Stillwell and bass player Seth Bolt. Much of their music is played on Christian radio, but they have charted on mainstream pop charts. In 2011, they were part of the Taylor Swift Speak Now North American Tour. They recorded their fourth album “The Reckoning” in Charleston.
“Our goal is simple, to raise as much money as possible for Palmetto Medical Initiative and its work around the globe, and the more people who can get behind our cause the better,” said Britt Gilb
founder of the Commonwealth Cares Foundation. “We are thrilled to have so many people giving their time to this golf tournament. The lineup of celebrities playing in this
tournament is incredible.”
Founded in 2007, Commonwealth Cares Foundation is the charitable arm of Commonwealth Financial Group, a Daniel Island-based financial services firm with a division focused on providing financial pla
nning services to physicians and the medical community.
Gilbert, whose firm takes a values-based approach to its work, believes that “success is measured by the lives we change, the impact we have on others and our involvement as responsible community members.” Gilbert has gone on two medical missions trips with PMI, one to Uganda and one to Nicaragua in December 2012.
Cost for the Needtobreathe Classic is $300 for individual player registration and $1,200 for a team of four. Register online
