End Of Year Golf Predictions

Posted on 25 April 2013   Articles, Golf History

With the Masters finally here, the golf season is really starting in earnest. We have already been surprised by some of the things that have happened so far this year. For example who could have predicted Tiger Woods’ sudden reemergence to claim the number one ranking, or Rory McIlroy’s sudden struggles? Professional golf is as unpredictable as it is exciting, so it is impossible to know what we will all be discussing in a year’s time. But here are some of my best (and perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek) predictions for the end of the year.

Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn Will Get Married

Tiger Woods has finally retaken his place at the top of the world rankings after over three years. He has yet to win a major since his spectacular fall from grace in 2009, but something has rejuvenated the American, helping him to win three tournaments already this year, and climb back up the rankings to number one. In other news, Woods recently announced that he and Olympic gold medalist skier Lindsey Vonn are dating. Coincidence? I think not. Tiger will want to hold on to whatever has helped him find his form, so maybe it’s time to put a ring on it! Mind you, considering how his last marriage ended, and the effect that had on his career, perhaps he should stay away from the institution for a while…

Rory McIlroy Will Want to Leave Nike

Despite having perhaps his best year to date in 2012, Rory McIlroy has struggled to make his mark on 2013. Since winning the PGA Championship and earning the number one ranking, McIlroy’s form has dropped dramatically. He walked off the course in the Honda Classic and did not manage to make a score under par until the Cadillac Championship. Many have blamed this drop in form on his switch to Nike equipment. Maybe it is a poor craftsman that blames his tools, but McIlroy is sure to figure out eventually what the rest of the world already knows – he needs to get rid of those substandard Nike clubs. Oh wait, Tiger uses which equipment?

Phil Mickelson Will Be Considering Retirement

Phil Mickelson recently raised eyebrows when he complained about the high taxes that his high income requires him to pay, hinting that it might be time for him to retire. But let’s try and see this from Phil’s perspective. It can be incredibly frustrating to see you hard-earned money virtually disappear when tax season comes around. And when your income is only around $50 million…well, everybody pray for Big Phil.

Bubba Watson Will Quit Golf, Start a Fashion Line and Talk Show

It seems as though there has been more talk about the defending Masters champion’s outfit than his form this season. And it is no wonder why, as Watson’s form has been inconsistent to say the least. The latest news is that Bubba has invented a golf course hovercraft. Between that and his colorful personality, perhaps it may be time for Watson to leave golf behind and play to his strengths. A clothing line and chat show might be first on the docket.
